Events

Because of the UMBSC’s larger territory, the Club regularly sanctions two events but promotes the continuing gatherings and fellowship of its members in between these annual events.

When possible, the UMBSC also enjoys offering seminars and clinics on various topics of interest to our members. These are often combined in conjunction with a Hunt Test weekend. Previous topics have included hunt test lessons from pro-trainers, dog safety and field care from area trappers.

If there’s a topic that interest you, or that you can coordinate for the Club, please email us for scheduling, info@umbsc.com.

BASIC HUNT TEST INFORMATION

  1. There are three classes: Novice, Intermediate and Open

  2. In each Upland class, dogs find, flush and retrieve 3 upland birds (chukar partridge, quail or pheasant, depending on the class) and perform water retrieves of ducks. In each Retriever class, dogs retrieve 2 or 3 migratory birds (ducks, doves/pigeons) on land and on/across water.

  3. In the more advanced classes, the dog performs blind retrieves, double mark retrieves, a “walk up” (jump shoot), and honors another working dog.

  4. Successful dogs earn points towards Boykin Spaniel Society titles which become a permanent record of the dog’s accomplishments.

  5. Identical events will be held on each of the two days: a dog who achieves success on both days will be halfway to earning their BSS title in the class.

  6.  A dog can only be entered in one stake each day. The class-of-entry choice is entirely up to the owner/handler, but should be made with consideration of past accomplishments in similar test venues. For example, a dog with an HRC Upland Hunter (UH) title shouldn’t be entered in the Upland Novice class.
